First off I gotta say I had a blast on June 21st at the New Balance 1/2. It was really fun to race on routes I train on regularly. This helped immensely with the mental preparation. I have often had my best races (of the 15 or so I've done so far :) when I have strong mental pictures of the course and what it has in store at certain points. Coach Noa provided an awesome mental prep. workshop handout that incorporated much more than just visualization - and it helped, a lot.
The swim was kind of funny at the start as we all inched our way over to the left to get a straight line to the first buoy. We couldn't hear a thing the race announcer was saying so we all just waited for the cannon. Once it went off I stayed right in the group I wanted to be in. After a good swim (pretty sure it was a bit short though.. . ) our group came out in around 24:30.
A smooth transition got me out onto my bike and ready to attack the 2 loops. Everything was going smooth on the bike and I was right in the effort zones I was aiming for. Once the second loop got underway I decided it was time to laser in the focus and make sure the second lap was as fast as the first. I had pretty even splits by the end of the ride.
T2. . . . gotta get a little faster in there. I set out on the run at a good clip and my run legs came quickly. Settled in and had a pretty good first lap. Second lap was just over a minute slower and I was happy about that. Run time was okay overall but a little bit slow since my right calf was threatening to tighten during the second loop. Jamie Grimes, my amazing chiropractor and ART therapist at Synergy Health Management (http://www.synergyhealthmanagement.com/), found a knot the "size of a golf ball" on tuesday after the race.. . . . .might have had something to do with the tightness on the run, Haha oops.
It was great to finally do a race in my hometown. I really enjoyed seeing all the people I knew out there, including my fiancé Mari.
Thank-you to everyone who cheered me on during the race, it gives me so much energy to see and hear people I know.
I hope everyone who participated in the events had a great time.
Thank-you all you volunteers as well.
Bye for now,
Adam
